This piece is from my “Flowers” series. I love how flowers appear on silk. The painting is made of dye and acrylic paint on silk. While painting, I always use the finest quality Chinese Silk. When applied, liquid dyes and paints flow and move on silk in a way that is truly exhilarating to watch! In order to stop this movement, a material called a resist is used which not only stops the dyes from moving on the silk, but also creates an outline for what is being depicted, adding dramatic dimension. Once the painting is completed, the dyes are steam-fixed in order for them to become color-fast. This also causes the colors to become brighter and more intense. This piece is stretched, painted on the sides, and ready to hang.
