"Lady of the Lake 1" is the result of a labor-intensive effort where various techniques are used, including impasto texturing, wash staining, collage and sand manipulations. Found oceanic objects are repurposed into a kind of archaeological bas relief. Through multiple layering and collage, each layer contributes to a sedimentation recalling naturalism and geology. This work depicts a sense of enigma and mystery about light phenomena and the romantic landscape. This is a mixed media work in acrylic polymers, acrylics, sand, metallic powders, shells, pebbles, and oils. The painting is on a gallery wrapped canvas with finished black edges. It comes varnished and ready to hang.

Getting to Know Mélisa

The natural world is the blueprint for Melisa’s work, while allusions to past and contemporary culture inform its development. She approaches her artwork by developing her own hybridization of artistic practices. Melisa relies on commercial tools such as blow torches and electrical sanders to create her work, in addition to other labor-intensive methods. By exploring the assimilation of aerosol painting, pyrography, and sanding on wood, Melisa produces unique abstract art that is simultaneously geometric and organic.
