I was in a 100-year-old farmhouse last year and was admiring a rear wall that had many layers of paint showing. It was scratched and peeling, but full of color and character. The wall told a long story that inspired a group of paintings to which this one belongs. I began with a simple oil painting that I let dry, then deconstructed it with an electric sander, wire brushes and a chisel! This process was repeated many times, each time taking away, yet revealing a different and more complete story. I hope I've created a landscape of memory, an abstract feeling. The final layer is a resin, which holds it all together. This piece is on a cradled wood panel and the painting continues around the sides. It comes ready to hang.

Getting to Know Ronda

Ronda Waiksnis captures abstracted, atmospheric movement through her direct application painting process. Rarely using brushes, she applies heavy layers of paint with large palette knives and other tools, shifting the oil paint instinctively. Ronda is inspired by her natural surroundings and strives to capture the mood of any given day. The artist uses muted earth tones and receding horizon lines to demonstrate depth, conveying the transient sky or evanescent reflections in water with expressive feeling. Ronda aims to make art that is emotive and visceral, organic and unrefined. She is passionate about the endless possibilities for innovation that being an artist offers.
