Darlene McElroy
Santa Fe, New Mexico

Darlene McElroy sees creating art as similar to reading Turkish coffee grounds – a story becomes revealed as one looks at the surface, texture and color. Her works use a variety of materials ranging from acrylics paints to collage. She currently lives in New Mexico and has been greatly influenced by the work of Robert Rauschenberg. She encourages viewers to search for their narrative interpretation when viewing a work.

We have two pieces by Darlene; and they are so wonderful to live with! We lived in Santa Fe for 11 years, and count Darlene as a friend. Her innate creativity and energy are astonishing. We continue to enjoy seeing her new and unique output in the form of artworks and books! Sue & Gus

Just added a lot of new art to the site that I hope you enjoy. I can't create a new painting without it having a narrative. It is the stories that make me want to paint.

Looking forward to working with Ugallery and showing my work to a broader group of people who love narrative art.

Comments About This Piece

Often we adore something with almost a religious fervor. It could be the ocean, a juicy perfect pineapple or a person.

This piece was made with acrylics, metal leaf, and collage on a cradled masonite board. It comes varnished and ready to hang.

Mixed media artwork

Mixed media refers to an artwork that is created using several different types of traditional art media, for example oil paint, ink and collage. The specific media used for each mixed media piece on UGallery is listed in the notes section.

Masonite board

Masonite board is a thin, smooth panel of highly compressed wood. If not already framed, most masonite board artwork will require framing.

A one-of-a-kind artwork is a unique piece handmade by the artist. There is only one in existence. The work may be part of a series, however, the piece itself is unlike any other. This piece is available exclusively at UGallery.
