I have always been fascinated with tales of lost boats at sea and survival stories.  This piece was inspired by these stories of the brave souls who venture out past their safety zone to cross the unknown.  This is a diptych from my "States of Water United" series made with acrylic, oil, collage, and graphite. The top panel is 14x34 and the bottom panel is 34x34 inches.  The edges are natural wood and it comes ready to hang.

Getting to Know Leslie

Leslie grew up in the desert and all the while lusted after the ocean. Her work is strongly influenced by her obsession with water and love of swimming. Nautical and aquatic motifs dominate her various series. To create her compositions, Leslie sources vintage photographs from libraries and museum stock collections to collage into her art. Her combination of photography and painting is intended to represent memories and emotions, respectively. Leslie brings together a wry humor, childlike joy, and an undertone of feminism to remind of us times past and offer us a roadmap for the future. Now a resident of San Francisco, Leslie is surrounded by water in her life and work.
