This piece is a multilayered work that dynamically combines color-field staining, impasto-relief surface treatment and gestural spray painting. It is inspired by Sterling Ruby's pictorial work where an impressionistic imagery is created where shimmering phenomena appear and recede throughout a dreamlike atmosphere.

This painting is composed of acrylic polymers, acrylics, sand, metallic powders, shells, pebbles and oil paints on a gallery wrapped canvas with finished white edges. It comes varnished and ready to hang.

Getting to Know Melisa

The natural world is the blueprint for Melisa’s work, while allusions to past and contemporary culture inform its development. She approaches her artwork by developing her own hybridization of artistic practices. Melisa relies on commercial tools such as blow torches and electrical sanders to create her work, in addition to other labor-intensive methods. By exploring the assimilation of aerosol painting, pyrography, and sanding on wood, Melisa produces unique abstract art that is simultaneously geometric and organic.
