My characters are born out of a few lines and spots. From these forms appear different universes from one another. The lady of the night was inspired by the monochrome black. I added spots of color one after the other and her face appeared through the darkness. The canvas is painted in oil and was prepared with modeling paste which adds texture. The edges are finished black and it comes ready to hang.

Getting to Know Clemence

Initially everything is abstract, gestural and intuitive for Clemence Dubois. A shape becomes a bird, a fish, a flower or a character. Her paintings capture colors and shapes that words have yet to say. She says, “I want people to look at my paintings and observe my feelings for beauty in all forms and my joy of living that permeates my art.” Clemence likes to read, watch television, swim and travel. She also leads workshops in creative and figurative painting.
