Yamilet says her current series of abstract paintings draws on elements of the American Southwest and shamanism. Deep red and orange against saturated blues set a moody, spiritual tone. In this piece, one may see a settlement under the overhang of a canyon wall, or the face of a shaman peering out from running lines of paint.
Yamilet Sempe is a French-American artist who works in a boldly graphic abstract style visibly influenced by modernist aesthetics. She describes her color palette as being a reflection of her positive energy. Yamilet loves being in nature, finding inspiration in the sea near her Florida home. The subtropical weather and the brightness of the sun guides her choice to use primarily warm colors. Yamilet is also influenced by painter Hilma af Klint and the architecture of Paris.
