Indigenous people, animals and plants are all fighting extinction in a world where the politics that govern us become less and less transparent. I look to nature for guidance and a sense of well being. This piece began with a graphite and watercolor creation of the barn owls that live in the forests in my area. The rich texture of the trees are created with collaged bits of images of bark and litter that I clean up off of scenic highways, as a gentle reminder to clean up our environment.

This is a diptych. The left panel is 24H X 36W and the right panel is 24H X 24W.

Getting to Know Linda

Linda Klein is an eco-conscious mixed media artist from California. She applies her passion for the environment to her work. “Many of my collaged tree pieces are created with bits of litter that I clean up off of scenic highways,” Linda says. “Each painting contributes to cleaning up our planet and turns ‘trash into trees.’” By repurposing litter as collage material, Linda dutifully reminds her viewers that recycling is key to a thriving future. The artist lives in Marin County, where she feels grateful to have inherited her mother-in-law’s large art studio that is always filled with light.
