I have started a new series of paintings with a different approach. I always start my paintings with a few lines. This allows me to discover new characters every time. It's very rare that I draw horses. I prepared this canvas first with modeling paste and chose a background color to begin a dark red monochrome painting, and then added some dabs of ocher, pink, green, white, black and gray. The use of black accentuates the shapes and creates contrast. This oil painting is on a gallery wrapped canvas with finished black edges. It comes ready to hang.

Getting to Know Clemence

Initially everything is abstract, gestural and intuitive for Clemence Dubois. A shape becomes a bird, a fish, a flower or a character. Her paintings capture colors and shapes that words have yet to say. She says, “I want people to look at my paintings and observe my feelings for beauty in all forms and my joy of living that permeates my art.” Clemence likes to read, watch television, swim and travel. She also leads workshops in creative and figurative painting.
