After Irma stuck the Florida Keys I watched the images of all the boats lying across Highway 1 and was remembering having lived in a beautiful marina on a boat there for several years.  I wanted to recreate my memory of this environment with just a touch of chaos and weather.  I went through all my old papers and printmaking works and cut out 87 boats for this piece. There are beautiful layers, depth and movement happening!

Getting to Know Leslie

Leslie grew up in the desert and all the while lusted after the ocean. Her work is strongly influenced by her obsession with water and love of swimming. Nautical and aquatic motifs dominate her various series. To create her compositions, Leslie sources vintage photographs from libraries and museum stock collections to collage into her art. Her combination of photography and painting is intended to represent memories and emotions, respectively. Leslie brings together a wry humor, childlike joy, and an undertone of feminism to remind of us times past and offer us a roadmap for the future. Now a resident of San Francisco, Leslie is surrounded by water in her life and work.
