I have started a new series of paintings with a different approach. I always start my paintings with a few lines. This allows me to discover new characters every time. It's very rare that I draw birds.

I prepared this canvas first with modeling paste and chose a background color to begin a dark blue monochrome painting, and then added some dabs of light blue, gold, yellow, white, black and gray. This acrylic painting has been worked with brushes and spatulas. The sides of the gallery wrapped canvas are painted black and it comes ready to hang.

Getting to Know Clemence

Initially everything is abstract, gestural and intuitive for Clemence Dubois. A shape becomes a bird, a fish, a flower or a character. Her paintings capture colors and shapes that words have yet to say. She says, “I want people to look at my paintings and observe my feelings for beauty in all forms and my joy of living that permeates my art.” Clemence likes to read, watch television, swim and travel. She also leads workshops in creative and figurative painting.
