"This painting is about the beauty of the moment," says Brit. A contemporary landscape with a primordial feel, the land rises out of the water and then the mountain will eventually be washed away and disintegrate. The simple lines, forms and textures created by paper and paint is just enough to communicate the essence of the scene. This piece was created by collaging embossed paper and layering acrylic paint, giving the work a low relief effect.
Weaverville, North Carolina
Artist Brit J Oie grew up in a small rural town on the west coast of Norway where nature was her playground and creativity was a way of life. The men in her family were woodworkers and the women did knitting, sewing and weaving. Brit started her art career as a weaver in Norway. After marrying an American and moving to the United States, she went back to school for a degree in Fine Art. During her senior exhibition, Brit developed her mixed media technique using embossed papers and acrylic paint, which is a culmination of all the styles she has previously mastered. Today, she works in a light-filled studio in the River Arts District of Asheville, NC. Her work is held in numerous private collections in the U.S. and Norway as well as the University of North Carolina, Asheville. Outside of the studio, Brit enjoys hiking, gardening and soaking in outdoor hot springs, relaxing and taking in the river view.
