This piece is from my series “Farmers of the Sea". It presents the idea that we should be looking at our need to take care of the ocean in the same way farmers do their land. The whale is full of plastic trash. This mixed media artwork is made of collage, oil sticks and acrylic paints. The piece is on a cradled wood panel with finished natural edges. It comes ready to hang.

Getting to Know Leslie

Leslie grew up in the desert and all the while lusted after the ocean. Her work is strongly influenced by her obsession with water and love of swimming. Nautical and aquatic motifs dominate her various series. To create her compositions, Leslie sources vintage photographs from libraries and museum stock collections to collage into her art. Her combination of photography and painting is intended to represent memories and emotions, respectively. Leslie brings together a wry humor, childlike joy, and an undertone of feminism to remind of us times past and offer us a roadmap for the future. Now a resident of San Francisco, Leslie is surrounded by water in her life and work.
