Artwork
I have been engaging my work with ideas derived from the pictorial works of artists Jack Whitten, Sterling Ruby, and Gerhard Richter. A synthesis of these interests is materializing in my latest body of work. This piece explores the assimilation of aerosol painting, pyrography, and sanding techniques on wood. This ethereal series solicits our visual perception by suggesting a discoverable lattice of motifs emerging out of defacement and obscuration.
This painting is on cradled wood panel with natural edges. It comes lightly varnished ready to hang.
Melisa Taylor
Quebec, Canada
The natural world is the blueprint for Melisa’s work, while allusions to past and contemporary culture inform its development. She approaches her artwork by developing her own hybridization of artistic practices. Melisa relies on commercial tools such as blow torches and electrical sanders to create her work, in addition to other labor-intensive methods. By exploring the assimilation of aerosol painting, pyrography, and sanding on wood, Melisa produces unique abstract art that is simultaneously geometric and organic.
It has been a very exciting week-end on Ugallery, two works from the "Turbulences" series have been acquired into private collections in New Jersey. Very pleased!
Thank you so much for your kind words! :)
Just taking a wander through this site, and your work caught my eye. Holy cow, I absolutely LOVE what you do, it's surreal and beautiful and so incredibly inventive and creative. I only hope to be that good one day. :)

Love this work. The geometry and cross-hatching + the assymetry are lovely. Wishing you the best.
Just want to say that I love this painting as well as the rest of your work. The paintings are beautiful and bold, which is something I rarely say.
