Wild honeysuckle grows abundantly on a bluff leading down to a river where I live. In the summer, you can smell the sweet fragrance of this delicate flower as you take a walk and view the river. This acrylic painting has very thick texture which was created with handmade paper circles. The geometric squares suggest the buildings on the hill above the honeysuckle bluff. Sweet colors of yellow, pink, gray and white create a soft mood.
Brenda Buffett is inspired by the dynamism in one of America’s fastest growing cities. Her bright abstract cityscapes capture a moment in time in the ever-changing urban landscape of Nashville. “The signature of this community is action and change… I hope my paintings capture a constant movement, like the energy of the turnaround in SoBro,” she explains. From her living room studio overlooking downtown Nashville, she may start with cathartic printed messages on the canvas and then use credit cards, a potato masher, eye patches, chopsticks, and feathers to build up layers in her signature style. Throughout her body of work, there are details alluding to the Nashville music scene, food, architecture and nature that invite a closer look. Brenda studied Interior Design at Belmont University, and her art is featured in the Mayor of Nashville's collection as well as a Bravo TV design show, solo shows and private collections.
