A palomino horse against a dramatic sky with a sunburst coming through the clouds. The scale of the animal plays with whether this is simply a horse or a vast desert landscape. "Mixing oil and acrylic are usually 'against the rules' but I decided to experiment with using the oils to paint the sky on this piece and then use my acrylic and eggshell technique on the horse," explains Jennifer. The result is a dramatic and surreal image pushing the boundaries of Jennifer's iconic Kinstsugi Horse series.

Jennifer Ross grew up surrounded by the art of her mother and grandfather. Her attempt to follow in their footsteps presented detours, however, and she ended up working in art galleries selling other's work. But her desire to paint continued to grow throughout the years. In 2008, a gift certificate to a local art store turned into an epiphany when she decided to try painting. Jennifer found inspiration in a collection of antique prints of birds' nests and eggs by the English artist, F.O. Morris, and began to create an avian series. These paintings serve as symbolic family portraits of what we all hold dear - our home and loved ones. Today, she is often commissioned to paint various colored eggs representing patrons' family members.
