I painted this with the spacial quality of New Mexico in mind.  There are many layers, which I've sanded down to expose what is beneath. It holds special memories of my family's home in New Mexico and my many visits. This is a diptych, and each panel is 36 x 24 inches.

Getting to Know Karen

Bay Area artist Karen Meadows was encouraged by her parents, an artist and a professor, to pursue the creativing process of making art. After receiving her MFA at California College of the Arts, Karen worked to develop her personal practice while also teaching art at a high school level. In fact, it is a delightful coincidence that UGallery staffer Madeline was a pupil of hers. Now Karen’s time is focused solely on her studio career. Her abstract, mixed-media and encaustic work relies on thoughtful color theory and use of pattern. Karen’s work has been shown at the Lausanne Biennale in Switzerland, at museums in Europe, and across the San Francisco Bay Area.
