This work has a lot of depth and layers to it due to the encaustic and my application techniques.

My grounded series uses pages from old psychology books, mainly those of Carl Jung, James Hillman and Fritz Perls. Using collage, encaustic (wax), image transfers and paint, I explore the writings and theories as well as how nature, myth, and archetypes can capture and connect to our deeper purpose and desires. As James Hillman stated, “the tree suits our notion of personality growth, and indeed appears as a spontaneous metaphor for the imperceptible expansion from seed to fullness.”

This painting is on a cradled wood panel with finished black edges. It comes ready to hang.

Getting to Know Adam

Adam primarily works in mixed-media, deliberately selecting materials that contribute to the story of the work. The artist recently embarked on a new career, transitioning from advertising into psychology. This change in personal direction has influenced Adam’s creative process and artistic choices. Previously, he worked with movie posters and commercial vinyl in an attempt to deconstruct and reconstruct popular culture narratives encountered in the realm of advertising. Adam is currently working on a series that collages pages from old psychology books, image transfers, and encaustic. The pieces in this body of work focus on trees which, in connection with the book pages, represent personal growth and the relationship between nature and deeper spiritual purpose.
