In this dreamy impressionist rendering, artist Amelia Furman uses oil paint over a paper collage. Delicate branches spread out into the sky with bright leaves holding onto their branches. "When I relocated to Colorado, I was struck by the aspen groves that were sprinkled among swathes of evergreen trees on the hillsides and mountains," says Amelia. "I loved how their vibrant gold shouted, 'I'm here!' I learned that aspen trees in a grove are all interconnected by a massive root system. They look so thin and fragile, but below, they are incredibly strong because they grow together. These aspen groves remind me of the power of community."

Artist Amelia Furman creates impressionist mixed-media pieces. “Through the layering of text, photographs, maps, and symbols, I bring forward the story of a place while using oil paint to express the transient nature of time,” says Amelia. While wanting to play it safe and work as a graphic designer and illustrator, her painting and drawing professors encouraged her to consider a fine art career. After college, her fellow artists in the Brandywine River Area in Philadelphia were highly influential in launching her professional art practice. Together with her husband, they built her studio on the lower level of their home. It functions as a family space and studio space for seamless working and living with two young boys. Amelia was presented with the Larimer County Artist of the Year award in 2019.
