The masculine and feminine roles have changed but this could be more than the obvious. Are we strong, are we comfortable in our own skin? This piece is made of collage, a vintage book cover, image transfers, and acrylic paint on cradled board. It is varnished and ready to hang.
Santa Fe, New Mexico
Darlene McElroy sees creating art as similar to reading Turkish coffee grounds. A story becomes revealed as one looks at the surface, texture and color. Her works use a variety of materials ranging from acrylic paints to photo transfers and collage. She currently lives in New Mexico and has been greatly influenced by the work of Robert Rauschenberg. She encourages viewers to search for their narrative interpretation when viewing a work.

I recently purchased an awesome piece by Darlene off this site and was delighted with it. The painting itself had beautiful depth but the addition of the 3D texture was icing on the cake! And of course her evocative subject matter and symbolism tied it all together into one wonderful and unique package! Hope to buy another of hers some day!!!- J Stiles
We have two pieces by Darlene; and they are so wonderful to live with! We lived in Santa Fe for 11 years, and count Darlene as a friend. Her innate creativity and energy are astonishing. We continue to enjoy seeing her new and unique output in the form of artworks and books!- S Herdman
