This piece explores the marriage of gestural color-field with hard-edge geometry. Built upon a multilayered convergence of aerosol painting, pyrography and hard-edge techniques on wood, this intimist series solicits our visual perception by suggesting elegant motifs emerging out obscuration and shimmering planes.

This painting is made with acrylic paint, aerosol paint, and pyrography techniques on cradled wood panel with natural edges. It comes lightly varnished and ready to hang.

Getting to Know Mélisa

The natural world is the blueprint for Melisa’s work, while allusions to past and contemporary culture inform its development. She approaches her artwork by developing her own hybridization of artistic practices. Melisa relies on commercial tools such as blow torches and electrical sanders to create her work, in addition to other labor-intensive methods. By exploring the assimilation of aerosol painting, pyrography, and sanding on wood, Melisa produces unique abstract art that is simultaneously geometric and organic.
