I began this painting as my dog, my beagle, was dying. After her passing I could see that this was an image of a dog "flying upwards" in the paint. Not planned! It was amazing to see my subconscious at work, as I included in the lower left the absolute likeness of a beagle's head. This painting is on gallery wrapped canvas with sides painted as part of the composition. It arrives varnished and ready to hang.

Getting to Know Sheila

Sheila Grabarsky is an abstract painter living and working on the New Jersey shore. She is known for her bold and expressive gestural brushstrokes, juxtaposition of contrasting colors, and spontaneity in her paintings. Sheila’s animated paintings have been compared to those of Vasily Kandinsky, the Russian painter and art theorist referred to as “the father of abstraction.” And, like Kandinsky, the essence of inner beauty and the potency of the human spirit are key factors in her art. Fun fact: Sheila’s work is featured in a 2016 movie called American Pastoral. The film, starring Ewan McGregor and Dakota Fanning, is set in post-war New York during the flourishing abstract expressionism movement.
