I have been working on a series of pieces using a lot of mark-making and contrasts. This painting came together a little easier than most (which rarely happens!) due to a workable underpainting. I love the boldness of this piece and use of negative space.

Getting to Know Jeffrey

Jeffrey Tover is an abstract artist based in the Bay Area who creates paintings that are colorful, multilayered, and gestural. The haphazardness of the marks in his compositions engage the viewer’s eye as it moves through every inch of the canvas. His work is greatly influenced by expressionist painters Cy Twombly, Joan Mitchell and Willem de Kooning, and shares similar gestural qualities to their work. Through his art, Jeffrey strives to achieve uniqueness in each painting; every piece takes on its own individual persona and influences his viewers in different ways.
