"Do you remember the story of Sleeping Beauty? There were roses growing and hiding the princess," says artist Jerome Cholet. In this piece, Jerome shows a crying portrait of his muse, model Augusta Alexander, with the image cut up into several pieces. "I like the contrast between his beauty and him crying. It reminded me of the most famous fairytale, Sleeping Beauty." Jerome used an old Parisian wall painter's technique, which is rolling a floral pattern. In this case, he applied the motif on the front creating a screen between the viewer and the image.

Artist Jerome Cholet brings together the aesthetics of Pop Art, fashion and social media in his contemporary portraits. "I just love the diversity our world offers, which I reflect in my art," says Jerome. "For me there is no naive art or fine arts, for me there is art that moves people - or doesn't." In high school he studied in Versailles close to Paris, and then did a tour of social service in the Amazon in Brazil working with malnutritioned children. Later, he spent three years as a journalist in South Africa. Today, Jerome's apartment is full of Amazon clay sculptures, wooden sculptures from Africa and big pictures from an emerging Botswanan artist, which he fondly regards for inspiration. He maintains a small studio in his home brimming with supplies and reference material. In his day job, he works as a communications director for an advertising agency.
