This is part of a series in which I experimented with layering oil, epoxy and acrylic to create translucent layers.  Each subsequent layer feels as if it is floating on the previous surface.

Getting to Know Mia

Mia Henry’s paintings are not only gestural and abstract, but also musical. The colors and brushstrokes flow and blend with an unexpected rhythm that translates emotion into a visual experience. Mia is inspired by the memories of her childhood in Newport, Rhode Island, where she would spend time by the ocean. She works almost exclusively with oil on canvas. She emphasizes the tactility and materiality of her process through layered compositions and exploration of new tools. Mia’s compositions give her paintings a lyrical musicality that rings with each abstract crescendos of color.
