Bill Watson
New Market, Maryland

Bill Watson worked for many years in the television and video industry as a motion graphics artist. Merging disparate imagery to create a narrative, Bill’s ideas are often plucked from his stream of consciousness. A diverse blend of ingredients – including diamond dust, cement, highlighter, and cut vinyl – convey a unique energy in each piece. While his work has been described as pop art, Bill finds that label somewhat misleading. “My work is a divergent blend of pop-culture infused adolescent fantasies, clashing with the desire to be a more enlightened adult.”

Comments About This Piece

Ancient Egyptian imagery dominates this street-art inspired work. A female "Anubis" figure glides over a pyramid topped with with the "all seeing eye". The falcon of Horus can be seen in the upper left portion of the work, while a gleaming acid-green scarab beetle pulls the eye to the lower left. The figures are painted in acrylic. This is one of my "faux-cement" pieces. The surface of the canvas is covered with a mixture of cement, gesso, acrylic paint, and a bit of water. This creates the appearance of a solid cement block without the weight of the real thing. The painting is on a gallery wrapped canvas with finished edges. It comes ready to hang.

Mixed media artwork

Mixed media refers to an artwork that is created using several different types of traditional art media, for example oil paint, ink and collage. The specific media used for each mixed media piece on UGallery is listed in the notes section.

Unstretched canvas

Canvas is a heavy-duty fabric used as a painting surface. When a canvas is labeled unstretched, it means the canvas has NOT been wrapped around a wooden frame (the ''stretcher''). Unstretched canvases typically require stretching or framing.

A one-of-a-kind artwork is a unique piece handmade by the artist. There is only one in existence. The work may be part of a series, however, the piece itself is unlike any other. This piece is available exclusively at UGallery.
