About this artwork
Artist Shari Lyon presents an encaustic depiction of silhouetted trees under a hazy atmosphere. The trees stand proudly above a bronzed earth, with their intricate roots stretching beneath the surface. Shari builds up the background with hot, melted wax and resin while incorporating oil paints, pastels, oil sticks, and drawings. In the final stages of the piece, Shari burns the image of the trees into wax, adds metallic touches, and buffs the surface. Trees, such as in this piece are my favorite subject. I love to think of the symbolism of trees and roots. I see them as representations of people, and their roots represent the way we interact and are connected in life.
