From my Wax Games series, I painted this painting with encaustic on wood panel.  I first created many layers of highly-pigmented wax built up to be highly textured and then carved back into it revealing the underlying colors. The  warm colors resonate with late afternoon light at day's end.

Getting to Know Sandi

Sandi is a mixed media abstract artist working primarily in hot wax, known as encaustic. “Encaustic paintings are equipment intense with torches, heat guns, griddles and pots, and other heating equipment like crockpots and irons,” Sandi says. The result is highly textural artworks with dimensional patterns and shapes created in the wax. The relief quality of the artwork’s surface reveals multiple layers of color, creating a dynamic depth not seen in traditional painting techniques.
