Inspired by an old black and white photograph, this work takes a scene from the past and updates it with a brash dose of color. Although Fauvist in tone and approach, there is enough detail to suggest the richness of the costumes. The composition centers around the three ladies in the white gowns, which make a strong visual statement when surrounded by the dark trees and the bright sunlight on the green grass. This painting allows you to step back in time with your very own garden party!

This painting is on a gallery wrapped canvas with finished edges. It comes ready to hang.

Getting to Know Robert

Robert Hofherr avoids depicting a landscape exactly as he sees it or as the viewer might expect. Instead, he enjoys reimagining landscapes and painting his pieces indoors at a fairly rapid pace. The works of French Fauve artists Maurice de Vlaminck and André Derain initially got him interested in painting, and also influenced his decision to not use grey in his works. During his free time he enjoys spending time with his kids, walking his dogs and taking road trips to out-of-way places in the mid-Atlantic region. He currently lives in Maryland.
