About this artwork
Artist Johansen Newman pictures a contemplative portrait of a woman writing a letter. It raises the question of which of the images on the wall, if any, the note is connected to. Five turtle doves surround her - a symbol of affection and often a term of endearment. "Each element of the painting has a meaning for me," shares Johansen.
She quotes a stanza from After Done by Robert Blazer Stewart as a reference to the title:
"And I love the coming storm of words.
Slower and duller than desire."
The painting comes with a handmade wooden frame painted brown.
