Patricia Rodriguez
Dallas, Texas

Patricia Rodriguez does not sketch her works in advance, so each piece possesses a unique energy. She also enjoys mixing mediums, like traditional paint and spray paint. “My work is an exploration of life through color and unique imagery. I’m looking closely at the way we have disconnected ourselves from a natural state of being.” During her free time she enjoys hiking, biking and reading. She also DJs and and plays bass guitar. Patricia currently lives in Texas. Fun fact: she is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for creating the largest mural done completely with makeup and makeup brushes.

Comments About This Piece

"Night Sounds" is inspired by nocturnal colors and plant life. Nature is my constant inspiration and I wanted to play with a darker palette to portray night. My special process includes spray painting the backgrounds of my work before hand painting many layers of acrylic on the canvas. No stencils are ever used in my art. I enjoy very tight, hand detailing each piece with brushes. The work is varnished with museum quality gloss and is completely painted over the sides to create a whole flowing piece from edge to edge. The work comes ready to hang.

Acrylic painting

Acrylic paint was made commercially available in the 1950’s. Acrylic is a fast drying paint that can be diluted with water, but becomes water-resistant when dry. Acrylics can be applied in thin layers and washes to resemble watercolor paints, or they can be applied in thick layers, built up for texture. The main difference between oil and acrylic paint is the drying time. Oil dries slowly, allowing more time to blend colors and apply glazes. Artists who use acrylic paints typically work faster than those who use oils. Additionally, acrylics offer more versatility and are often used for mixed media work. Artists can mix different materials into the paint, such as sand or rice. They can also apply other media on top of the dried acrylic, such as pastel or pen.

Stretched canvas

Canvas is a heavy-duty fabric used as a painting surface. When a canvas artwork is labeled stretched, it means the canvas has been wrapped around a wooden frame (the ''stretcher''). Stretched canvases typically do not require framing.

A one-of-a-kind artwork is a unique piece handmade by the artist. There is only one in existence. The work may be part of a series, however, the piece itself is unlike any other. This piece is available exclusively at UGallery.
