In late winter I took a trip down to Coeur d'Alene. The atmosphere was stunning, giant clouds lifting from the lake to expose water fading into darkness while the light above was blindingly brilliant. I am pretty obsessed with clouds and water but that particular bit of time was truly inspiring.
The piece is painted on plexiglass mounted to cradled wood with black sides. It comes ready to hang.

Brian Sostrom’s paintings of water and sky are not your typical picturesque seascapes. Moody dark blue hues combined with a soft atmospheric sense of light create something mysterious and mesmerizing. Painting on both sides of a Plexiglas panel, Brian uses this clear surface to achieve a pronounced sense of depth and a translucent quality in the scenes. Brian also favors wood panels for the cropped compositions, which do not depict distinct places, but rather seek to elicit a personal emotional response. Looking into the ripples of waves disappearing into a soft horizon, or the obscure, agitated clouds, there is an impression of both emptiness and eternity. Brian was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, and his paintings are inspired by the natural beauty of the region.
