Big, floppy peonies are naturals for loose, expressive brushwork with thick paint in luscious colors! They are dramatic flowers that I paint often. I used a dark periwinkle for the background and edges of the canvas. The dark vase really contrasts with the large white blooms, making for a very dramatic bouquet!

This painting is on a gallery wrapped canvas with finished edges. It comes varnished and ready to hang.

Getting to Know Pamela

Pamela Gatens focuses on brushwork and layering in order to express her love of color. She finds inspiration in everything from beautiful flowers to a smiling cat. Her passion for art is so great that she feels nothing makes her happier than painting. “My colorful paintings come from the true happiness I feel in front of the easel,” she explains. She paints almost every day and especially loves the quiet solitude of the woods. She moved to West Virginia from Los Angeles and loves her new neighbors: birds and bears.
