A view of water lilies at sunset. The last light of the day is fading off of the still pond as abstracted evening shadows move across the surface. "I painted the piece with a harmony of colors and soft values to give a feeling of calm," explains Robert. He says he drew certain elements of inspiration from Monet's classic water lily scenes.
After painting for years out of the family room of his home, Robert took the plunge and built an addition to his home for proper studio space. He works in two very different styles, producing both color-blocked abstracts and realist landscapes. Robert begins each painting by creating a thumbnail value sketch to establish a composition. Each piece reflects his mood, but whether energetic or placid, the colors must always be harmonious. Robert’s technique uses mostly brushes with the occasional addition of palette knives to create subtle surface texture.
