Artwork

A colorful improvised abstract painting.

Courtney Jacobs

Livermore, California

Courtney Jacobs creates what she calls a “personal language” through her use of color, texture, composition and action. “If the painting inspires you, or sets a particular mood, or makes you feel free and playful, then I have accomplished my job,” she says. She enjoys listening to a wide variety of music while she paints, from Richard Wagner to Nine Inch Nails. The Abstract Expressionism movement and action painters greatly influenced her work. During her free time, she enjoys playing the piano and singing.

Hi G Tugan, thank you so much for your encouraging comment! It's great to hear my hours and hours of hard work can affect another person like that. I don't get that too much being stuck in a studio by myself for hours on end, so it's much appreciated. :)

I love your work; your use of color, and color choices. The feel of your paintings, too - definitely something I am connecting with.

I like She Remained the Same, the second of the three you list. It's a classic pose with good reason, and very well executed. Beautiful. Your use of color--the off-grays, the variety of fleshtones, the greens--is interesting, coming out of the green/orange/purple complementary palette as they do.
