For Courtney Jacobs, painting is an intuitive process that requires as much looking as painting. "This intuitive process taps into the purely visual non-language right brain - a meditative unfolding I liken to 'speaking in tongues,'" says Courtney. "Instead of vocalizing, I let the paint act as my medium of meditation." Courtney then invents titles as a part of this process, which are meant to be spoken aloud by the viewer.

Getting to Know Courtney

Courtney Jacobs creates what she calls a “personal language” through her use of color, texture, composition and action. “If the painting inspires you, or sets a particular mood, or makes you feel free and playful, then I have accomplished my job,” she says. She enjoys listening to a wide variety of music while she paints, from Richard Wagner to Nine Inch Nails. The Abstract Expressionism movement and action painters greatly influenced her work. During her free time, she enjoys playing the piano and singing.
