This is an expressionist and graphic abstract painting. Completed in a few hours, this piece said its peace and I stopped at that point. I was inspired by unplanned events that just happen and have great consequences. This piece is on gallery wrapped canvas and the painting continues around the sides. It comes ready to hang.

Getting to Know Allen

Allen’s expressionistic works present the abstract, the figurative, and everything in between. Each painting is marked by a vibrant use of color–frequent choices include turquoise, violet, and yellow–along with strong, gestural brushwork. Allen has been a passionate artist since he was a child growing up in his native South Africa. His oeuvre has evolved as he’s moved around the United States as an adult, from Connecticut to California to Texas. According to Allen, he gravitates toward three motifs: women’s faces, architectural fantasies, and abstraction. “I work generally with one of those three in mind, sometimes closely from a specific sketch,” says Allen. “Add layers, scrape it off, leave marks, repeat.”
