In this piece I was interested in how we attempt to blend into our surroundings. The irony here is that all attempts to camouflage ultimately fail, keeping this woman in the crosshairs. This painting is another exploration of mimicry and patterns as a reoccurring theme in my work. This painting is on a wood panel and can be displayed with or without a frame. It comes wired to hang.

Getting to Know Shawna

Shawna Gilmore calls herself a professional daydreamer. When her children aren’t waking her from her wanderings, she paints to explore the edges of wonder and reality. Her paintings weave back and forth between naturalistic investigations and surreal dreamlike scenarios. She loves to combine these two seemingly separate images to create a body of work that is “like a curio cabinet of experiences.” One prominent theme in her work is the female face or form, often representing a surrogate for herself. You can find Shawna caring for her twin children, discussing the finer aspects of life with her verbally talented husband, going for a walk or reading a good book.
