Elo Wobig
Happy Valley, Oregon
Artist Elo Wobig creates vivid impressionist views of her surroundings in the Pacific Northwest. “I paint from life and direct observation–outside or still life–whenever possible,” says Elo. She first discovered her interest in plein air painting through her local artist community in Portland. “It fit my penchant for being outside and my sense of urgency to capture the beauty in front of me.” For Elo, painting represents a second career. She worked for more than two decades as an emergency medicine physician and a volunteer physician at a low income clinic. Her long-time passion for art evolved into a new profession after completing a large mural for her son’s school play. The project led to a commissioned painting and Elo began to seek out painting groups and teachers to hone her craft. Today, Elo sketches and paints every day and regularly exhibits in local and national juried exhibitions. When she’s not creating, she enjoys traveling and hiking with her husband and three boys.
