"I was inspired by the encouragement that comes when those closest to us seem to speak to our souls when we need it most," says Mel. "The background was layered with a palette knife technique for texture and to represent the passage of time. The bright color palette represents joy and the feeling of a new beginning as a friend or loved one encourages you along the way. The birds are juncos."
Mel Kistner uses her experience in art therapy to create works with themes of redemption and hope. She recently completed a commissioned painting for a counseling center. She often paints birds to represent freedom, human emotions, and human responses to the world. Currently living in Orlando, she finds inspiration in a range of artists, from Frida Kahlo to Andrew Wyeth.
