An abstract done in my apartment in Houston. Traffic is not pleasant here, but I like the contrasts. There is the beauty of uncontrolled plant life, bushes and trees among high rises. Palm trees pop up here and there in the midst of urban ugliness. There's a lot of chaos and grit, and it's an oil- and gas-based economy. It's a great challenge to translate all this into a painting. This painting is on a gallery wrapped canvas and comes ready to hang.

Getting to Know Allen

Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Allen Wittert began illustrating at an early age. While still in high school, he worked as a freelance storyboard artist and cartoonist for Ogilvy Mather in Johannesburg and, subsequently, other top agencies during school breaks. He creates work with surprising patterns of color that come together in dynamic combinations and compositions. Allen finds inspiration in a diverse array of local sights, still life displays, and women. He says, "I am attracted to the rough and ready in content, application, and the picture surface."
