Animated blocks of red rule as the dominate color, interspersed with blue, teal and green, and accented with lively mark making. "This piece explores the innate richness that is rooted in our culture to transcend our personal insecurities," says Tarver. "It is intentionally vibrant with depth and texture to depict a safe container for exploring our own hidden potential." Part of Tarver's signature series of layered, meditative abstractions. She draws inspiration for these pieces from her studio view of a lake, and uses her garden as a seasonal color reference. Tarver first sketches in charcoal to define the composition and then enjoys squirting, spreading and blending paint on the surface to create new and unexpected colors and patterns.
Tarver Harris tells her soul's stories in paintings of abstract color expanses. Her process is like meditation where she explains, "I become immersed in the process and decisions are intuitive. I gather colors, squirting and spreading them as they naturally mix and blend into something new and unexpected." She builds and removes layers, adds shapes from nature and receives seasonal color inspiration from her garden. Tarver graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Communication Arts and Design. She is an award winning graphic designer who worked in advertising and magazine publication. Currently, she lives along Accokeek Creek in Stafford, VA with her husband and can be found painting in her home studio, working in the garden or creating living mandalas out of fresh flowers, seed pods and leaves.
