There is a turnaround in Nashville by the Music City Center where cars speed around in circles. I tried to capture this feeling of circular movement in this acrylic painting. I used credit cards and chopsticks to move the paint around in a dynamic gesture. The colors are a teal green, blue, black, white, and orange.
Brenda Buffett is inspired by the dynamism in one of America’s fastest growing cities. Her bright abstract cityscapes capture a moment in time in the ever-changing urban landscape of Nashville. “The signature of this community is action and change… I hope my paintings capture a constant movement, like the energy of the turnaround in SoBro,” she explains. From her living room studio overlooking downtown Nashville, she may start with cathartic printed messages on the canvas and then use credit cards, a potato masher, eye patches, chopsticks, and feathers to build up layers in her signature style. Throughout her body of work, there are details alluding to the Nashville music scene, food, architecture and nature that invite a closer look. Brenda studied Interior Design at Belmont University, and her art is featured in the Mayor of Nashville's collection as well as a Bravo TV design show, solo shows and private collections.
