A modernist painting drawing inspiration from Abstract Expressionism. Artist Robert Pennor offers a glance into a meditative window, with the suggestion of a landscape, fields and the last light of the day. "After applying a mixture of modeling paste and gesso, various shades of cerulean blue with hints of harmonious colors were scumbled onto the canvas," he explains of his working process. "A black armature was painted loosely for balance within the composition."
After painting for years out of the family room of his home, Robert took the plunge and built an addition to his home for proper studio space. He works in two very different styles, producing both color-blocked abstracts and realist landscapes. Robert begins each painting by creating a thumbnail value sketch to establish a composition. Each piece reflects his mood, but whether energetic or placid, the colors must always be harmonious. Robert’s technique uses mostly brushes with the occasional addition of palette knives to create subtle surface texture.
