Early morning clouds part over the steadily rushing Rio Grande, revealing the brilliant yellow clusters of rabbit brush that populate the sandy shoreline. A sturdy juniper tree anchors the river bank on this late fall day, resisting the strong westerly wind that propels the massive cumulus formations above

Getting to Know Jakki

Jakki Kouffman manipulates paint in much the same way the the whirling desert wind shapes the land around her. The Sante Fe landscape painter integrates Fauvist accents with a great eye for color, all of which shepherds the viewer toward a vivid daydream of howling New Mexico winds. Her long-term series of acrylics is called “Rivers, Mountains and Sea,” and it portrays the idea of resistance and change in the land through bold colors, striking textures and sweeping gestures.
