For this contemporary abstract painting, Jeffrey Tover drew inspiration from the work of Clyfford Still and Helen Frankenthaler. He began with earth tones and built up the piece to make a statement without being too overpowering. The resulting painting has a light and lively presence evocative of a summer spent on Positano, the work's namesake.
Jeffrey Tover is an abstract artist based in the Bay Area who creates paintings that are colorful, multilayered, and gestural. The haphazardness of the marks in his compositions engage the viewer’s eye as it moves through every inch of the canvas. His work is greatly influenced by expressionist painters Cy Twombly, Joan Mitchell and Willem de Kooning, and shares similar gestural qualities to their work. Through his art, Jeffrey strives to achieve uniqueness in each painting; every piece takes on its own individual persona and influences his viewers in different ways.
