This painting is part of Bertrand Girard's current series of Parisian scenes. He seeks to capture daily life in the magnificent city from apartment windows, cafes, parks and winding side streets. "One of my favorite themes of life in Paris, a certain romanticism, a temporary loneliness, a peaceful light; I use the window as a screen where a film of life takes place," says the artist.
Bertrand Girard remembers painting as a child, and eventually turned his passion into a profession. Each piece he creates is a way for him to express his feelings. Many of his works depict landscapes and scenes from Paris, but these vignettes serve as a way to capture a mood, not just a place.

As a writer I hope to take my readers to a new place, explore a new experience, explain a new perspective. With each of our three Girard paintings (Morning Coffee) we have our breakfast at a stand-up Parisian bar, (Leaving Under the Rain) we watch a friend leaving us to wonder if that was her last visit and now (The Cat on the Roof) we explore the roofs of Paris from the perspective of a curious cat. All are wonderful views.- R Keil
Thank you so much for your beautiful artwork! I love the winter scene and can't wait to visit Luxembourg Garden in the future. I look forward to seeing your new artwork.- D Thomas
You can smell the strong coffee and pastry. Concern and respect for privacy from the server is captured by Girard, who is probably sketching at a table unnoticed...- R Keil
