I painted this piece while living in Alaska over the summer. The sun stays high in the sky during the long days at latitude 59. Colors are vivid; the bright greens of the fast-growing plants, the saturated hues of the native flowers and the sparkling blues of Kachemak Bay. I wanted to capture all those luscious colors in this painting. The title refers to the tiny hippie town we stay in which is referred to as the Cosmic Hamlet by the Bay.

Getting to Know Peg

Peg Belcastro paints non-objective expressionist pieces using vivid colors and energetic lines. She is inspired by the lush forests and valleys that surround her home in rural Pennsylvania, as well as by the vibrant Alaskan wilderness where she paints every summer. Working intuitively as she paints, she responds to each gestural brushstroke with the next one, allowing every painting to follow its own path to completion. Peg enjoys the elements of surprise in her art, and she hopes that her work will be appreciated for the process as well as for the finished piece.
