Abstract floral scene inspired by collage and paper cutout studies. "I look for ambiguous shapes and vibrations of color that I can bring to the surface," explains Manty. "My work is abstract and intuitive, but it is also grounded in observational painting." Layers of transparent and opaque shapes create a hazy surface swarming with intricate patterns.

Getting to Know Manty

Manty Dey paints objects of adornment that offer moments of visual indulgence. Her floral-inspired style takes inspiration from color field paintings, Indian textiles, geodes and rituals. In a multi-step process, Manty often dries sheets of acrylic paint that she then cuts and collages onto canvas for added depth and shadow. She explains, “the paint is a physical material, the color has a glow, and its cast shadows create volume... to make each painting breathe and vibrate.” Based in Atlanta, Manty received a BFA in painting and drawing from Georgia State University and an MFA from the University of Georgia. Manty’s work has been exhibited at MOCA GA Museum, Georgia Museum of Art, Macon Museum of Arts and Sciences, and Lyndon House Art Center.
